Day 24 // #MyBlackOutdoorJoy Motherhood 🫱🏾‍🫲🏿 Ou Day 24 // #MyBlackOutdoorJoy

Motherhood 🫱🏾‍🫲🏿 Outdoors. This combination has saved me over and over again. If I had to start motherhood all over again, finding JOY in the outdoors alongside my kids would be the one thing I wouldn’t change. My kids have always been an integral part of my “Why do you go outside everyday?”. I want my mixed race kids to have a sense of belonging in the outdoors. The girls are both so little here, I love reliving these videos, brings me so much joy and takes me right back to this day.

I do this because my ancestors could not, and I can only do this because of what they did for me to be here ✊🏾

Find some time today to spend in nature. It is our birthright. See you back tomorrow for more Black joy in the outdoors 👋🏾🏔️🫶🏾

Day 23 // #MyBlackOutdoorJoy Got out for a mornin Day 23 // #MyBlackOutdoorJoy

Got out for a morning walk remembering #AhmuadArbery. 2.23 miles for the date he was murdered for simply running while Black. If you have the capacity - take some time to walk, jog or run for Ahmaud Arbery because he will never be able to again. Say his name. I would also highly recommend reading @alisonmdesir book called “Running While Black” and joining her events she puts on if you are looking for community!!

Today we remember Ahmaud ✊🏾 @ahmaudarberyfoundation

This is a series for #BlackHistoryMonth to center and celebrate my Black joy in the outdoors. Sharing little moments in nature that brought me peace and joy so others can understand the importance of getting outside too!

Posting joyful content around the outdoors this month is proving to be difficult because in the past year alone there have been 4 Black people found lynched in the South - yet local police are quick to say there is no foul play and claim they have all un-alived themselves. Call your US representatives and demand further investigations into these murders!!! @5calls is the app I use to be directly connected to the representatives in my area, your voice is needed! SAY THEIR NAMES ⤵️

Black people should be safe in the outdoors. We should be free to hike, play and exist in the backcountry without this ever present notion of danger in regards to being brutalized or lynched. It’s 2026 so it feels far fetched for some, but I would be remiss to scroll past this news in my feed and continue speaking about my personal joy in the outdoors without highlighting the pain of others. No news outlets are speaking out about this uptick of Black deaths in the same manor - spread the word. Share their stories!!! Read, learn and recognize that historically police mishandle these cases all the time. Corrupt police departments from the south are ancestors of slave catchers.

Call and demand further investigation into these 4 deaths, we want the truth!! ✊🏾😩

I started She Colors Nature back in 2019 because I wanted to see more Black women getting outdoors and start cultivating community! These women are not new to this - they are true to this, with or without Instagram they would be finding freedom and inspiration from nature! MY INSPIRATION. MY REPRESENTATION for the outdoors ✊🏾👏🏾🙌🏾

The number☝🏾barrier keeping Black folks from experiencing the outdoors is access to gear and knowledge! Over the years there have been organizations or businesses out to shift the privilege of access to educational tools or provide gear libraries for free or at low cost!

3 organizations eliminating the barriers to access for Black people who want to get outside ⤵️

3️⃣ @bipocoutdoorgearlibrary - lowering barriers to gear, knowledge and adventure ✨Visit their LINKTREE for all the details!

2️⃣ @fridieoutdoors - an on the go app for camping specific skills, tools and knowledge ✨Visit fridieoutdoors.com

1️⃣ @outdoorithm - adventure trips, tips and access to gear and recommendations, campsite access, and a green book! ✨Visit Outdoorism.com

Day 18 // #MyBlackOutdoorJoy Affirmations I won’ Day 18 // #MyBlackOutdoorJoy

Affirmations I won’t compromise on my liberation journey in connection to the outdoors ⤵️

Getting outdoors is my birthright.

I do not need to assimilate to the current outdoor culture to feel welcome.

I belong in the outdoors whether they like it or not.

The outdoors is a white space but that doesn’t change how I feel about it.

Nature welcomes me.

✊🏿 Q: Which affirmation resonates with you??

✊🏾 Feel free to steal and share these affirmations when you get outside too! 🌍

Day 17 // #MyBlackOutdoorJoy 👉🏾 Check below for o Day 17 // #MyBlackOutdoorJoy

👉🏾 Check below for orgs to follow to try something new!! My husband and I had a few days during our last anniversary celebration trip to explore a new part of Oregon! We ended up in some Ice Caves - and it was so much fun!! I reject the notion that fun adventurous outdoor activities are reserved for one community of people. Especially because it brings me so much JOY! If you’ve ever tried something new or gone out on a limb to experience an activity for the first time - you know the euphoric feeling I’m talking about! I’m actually claustrophobic, so entering this ice cave made my palms sweaty - but I was able to over come it! I couldn’t go all the way to the end, but it was an accomplishment for me! 🤸🏾‍♀️🥶🪨🤘🏾

I didn’t grow up doing outdoor activities like you see today, I grew up in a Black family with limited resources. My parents were amazing people but we weren’t spending our weekends exploring the outdoors! I was actually a volleyball athlete! As an adult I started to try new things in community with organizations creating safe spaces to do so!

‼️ Black women - Here are few organizations I would recommend looking at their programming and events calendars ⤵️

@edge_pnw - snow activities

@blacktotheoutdoors - outdoor activities

@the_bronze_chapter - nature focused activities

@colourthetrails - Canada based adventure

@browngirloutdoorworld - Canada based adventure

@camp.yoshi - camping & backpacking trips

@blackoutside_inc / @campfoundergirls - youth focused events and camps

@adventuruswomen - (not Black/brown led, but I’ve gone and felt a sense of belonging while learning to mountain bike and explore)

✊🏾 BLACK PEOPLE need to reconnect with nature now more than ever! 🌍

Will you try something new this year with one of these awesome organizations?! Let’s combat the narrative “that’s white people stuff”.

See you back tomorrow for more 👋🏾
