Suggested Black books, podcasts, media and accounts to follow and support.

When I was growing up I never had the opportunity to see myself in the people represented in main stream media. I never had a Black Barbie or the representation that I deserved when playing with the things I loved most. Besides my mom, I didn’t really have role models with my skin color that had any influence on me. I am on this beautiful journey of reading, following and educating myself through Black influential people of the past, present and future . I love the change I have seen in myself with just a little representation and validation.

Black women, you are beautiful, you are worthy, you are enough.

In this months post I wanted to share with you all a few different books, Instagram accounts and things my kids and I have been watching! These things have been incredibly life giving for me over the last year of growing, changing and refocusing. I am so glad that my kids will have the ability to have the representation that they need to thrive and understand they are incredible multicultural women. When you see yourself represented in the things you are interested in – it allows you to dream a little bigger.

Celebrate Black representation.

This Black History Month I wanted to be sure to highlight Black excellence, and the many ways we show up in our communities and represent. If we learned one thing last year, it was that as a society we can do much better at representing diversity and different cultures. We can do better at de-centering the white experience, decolonizing and diversifying our bookshelves, podcasts, television and who we follow on social channels.

The list of Black adventurous women does not end here, there are so many more to explore! Follow #diversifyoutdoors and listen, learn and support their work. Celebrate our Black joy and revel in the ways that way relate to nature. Its truly a beautiful thing!

Today is a good day to begin your anti racist journey.

When you KNOW better – you DO better.
